Virudhunagar poll results: EC seeks reporting officer’s report

The Election Commission of India (EC) has sought detailed reports from the Returning Officer (RO) and election observers over allegations of “irregularities” in vote counting by the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) in Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency.

The EC has also sought film footage of the counting process for the six constituencies of Virudhunagar Lok Sabha seat on June 4.

DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth claimed that “irregularities” in the counting of votes resulted in party candidate V. Vijayaprabhakaran defeating Congress candidate B. Manickam Tagore by a margin of 4,379 votes.

Sources said a decision on the issue will be taken soon based on reports from the returning officer and election observers.
