Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann to rent house in Jalandhar to contest AAP polls

punjab province Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on June 22 said he would rent a house in Jalandhar for the by-elections in the city, adding Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) election campaign will focus on what their government is doing.

Speaking at a state-level event in Hoshiarpur to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sant Kabir Das, Mr Mann said the Aam Aadmi Party has decided to contest the by-elections under his leadership election.

The by-election for Jalandhar West Assembly constituency will be held on July 10 and counting of votes will take place on July 13. A by-election for the Western Seat is necessary.

Mann said that as chief minister and the party’s state unit chief, he will lead the election polls in the west assembly segment of Jalandhar. “I will tell people, the work is done, the work is not done yet. Give more strength to the development of our region,” Mr Mann said.

The chief minister said he will travel to Jalandhar on Saturday. “I will rent a house there (Jalandhar). This house is not (rented) only till July 10 (when the poll results are announced). This house will later become the offices of Majha and Doaba districts, each Two to three days a week. I’ll stay there,” he said. “The chief minister and officials will be there for two days,” he added.

Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party suffered a crushing defeat in the recently concluded elections. Lok Sabha polls It could win only three of Punjab’s 13 assembly constituencies. AAP has nominated Mohinder Bhagat as its candidate for the Jalandhar West assembly bypoll seat.

AAP won seats in 2022 Punjab Assembly polls. Sheetal Angural, now the BJP candidate from the constituency, resigned on March 28, a day after joining the saffron party. On May 30, the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly accepted his resignation.

A total of 23 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the July 10 by-election. The last day to submit nomination papers is June 21.
