Nintendo acquires a studio known for Switch ports

The Japanese gaming company isn’t known for gobbling up smaller studios and developers. The company said in announcing the deal that the purpose of the acquisition was to “ensure access to advanced resources for porting and developing software products.”By acquiring Shiver, Nintendo has also shown that it is committed to the Switch platform, which will remain its main business The next few years.

as Nintendo Life noted that Nintendo may also decide to acquire Shiver to gain access to its talent. The studio’s chief executive, John Schappert, is an industry veteran who has overseen Xbox Live, Xbox platform software and Microsoft Game Studios. He also served as chief operating officer of EA and Zynga. Nintendo didn’t reveal how much it paid for the studio, but it doesn’t sound like the purchase will have any major impact on its finances. “The acquisition will only have a minor impact on Nintendo’s results for this fiscal year,” the company wrote in the announcement.
