Land acquisition for the expansion of Coimbatore International Airport has entered the final stage

Land acquisition for the Coimbatore International Airport’s runway expansion is in its final stages.

Officials involved in the land acquisition said the final phase of the work is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Although the land acquisition was initially planned to be completed by May 15, the deadline could not be met as revenue department officials were also involved in the Lok Sabha election work.

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati is closely monitoring the work and has directed officials to expedite the process.

“Almost all major works for land acquisition have been completed and officials are working on some final stages. The plan is to complete the process by the end of June,” an official said.

In the first week of May, out of the 635.33 acres of land granted administrative acquisition permission by the state government, only 14 acres were yet to be acquired.

Ten of the 14 acres fall under the Open Space Reserve (OSR) category or “free land,” so acquisition and compensation for only four acres have yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, sources close to the trade body said they will write to the new civil aviation minister seeking more international connections for Coimbatore.
