Co-working space, dialysis center, multi-sport center to be set up in Chennai

Major announcements such as co-working spaces, dialysis centres, multi-sport centres, conference centres, community centres, etc. were made by Chennai Mayor PK Sekarbabu in the Assembly on Friday.

The Tamil Nadu government will set up co-working spaces with high-speed internet connectivity in the city, the minister (in-charge of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) announced in the Assembly on Friday.

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) will build three multi-purpose complexes to house co-working spaces at a total cost of Rs 30 crore, he said. Ten libraries in Chennai will be improved through e-learning and setting up co-working spaces at a cost of Rs 20 crore.

The state government will prepare a flood prevention map for Chennai city. The Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex has been developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. CMDA will spend Rs 10 crore to develop an ecological park in Chetpet. The bus terminal at Ayyappanthangal will be developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

The minister said the CMDA will set up angadi at a cost of Rs 40 crore to sell products reflecting local flavours. The government will prepare urban design guidelines for the city of Chennai. The CMDA will develop 10 metro lines across the city at a cost of Rs 8 crore.

The marina heritage corridor between the lighthouse and island grounds will be improved at a cost of Rs 100 million. CMDA will be improved in two phases. A local area plan will be prepared to improve Anna Sarai and Old Mahabalipuram Road.

The CMDA will set up a convention center at Luz Road in Mylapur at a cost of Rs 3 crore. The T. Nagar bus terminus has been developed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Sivan Park in KK Nagar will be developed at a cost of Rs 3 crore, he said. The sponge park will be established at Veenus Colony in Chitlapakkam at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

The rainwater harvesting facility will be set up at the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex at a cost of Rs 15 crore. Storage facilities will be set up in the complex at a cost of Rs 7 crore. Mr Sekarbabu said a community center would be built at Harrington Road, Egmore, at a cost of Rs 100 million.

He said the government will set up a sports complex at Moolakothalam in Royapuram at a cost of Rs 10 crore. A dialysis center will be set up in Chepauk at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Amma Park in Sadapet will be developed at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
